Eline Delmarcelle

Eline Delmarcelle is a PhD Candidate at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University and visiting researcher at the East Asia Studies research centre (EASt), Université Libre de Bruxelles. After obtaining a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology, she pursued her MA in Political Science at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), and was awarded a magna cum laude for her MA thesis on the cultural diplomacy of Japan and its portrayal of Japan as a homogeneous society. Her PhD research project focuses on citizenship acquisition in Japan and Belgium, and specifically on how new citizens identify in their country of citizenship, and the influence of national narratives on their identification.
