Naoto Higuchi (Ph.D. Sociology, Hitotsubashi University) is a professor of sociology at the Faculty of Human Sciences. His research examines immigrants’ economic and social mobility in Japan, and xenophobia and the far right. Currently, he investigates how ethnic businesses in Japan can be analyzed in relation to intersectionality, how to understand the “Mediterranean crisis” of refugees and migrants in Italy, and how the newly emerging far right in Japan differs from others. His books include Japan’s Ultra-right (Trans Pacific Press, 2016) and The Digital Rise of the Far Right in Japan (co-edited with Yuki Asahina, Manchester University Press, 2026).
