The Director of the Institute for Asian Migrations, Gracia Liu-Farrer, together with IAM Visiting Researcher Helena Hof, recently appeared on the Borders & Belonging podcast produced by the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration. In this episode, they discuss the social construction of skill in international migration, exploring how labels such as “high-skilled” and “low-skilled” are assigned and contested across institutions and borders. The conversation reflects on how power, policy, and place shape whose abilities are recognized in global labour markets and what this reveals about contemporary migration dynamics.
